End of Week 2

Now we are at the end of week two. We've made some progress and here are the pictures to prove it.

The Kitchen

It may not look like a lot of progress has been made but all the damage to the drywall has been mudded; hence the spots on the walls.

The Dining Room

So the mudding in the dining room is done.

The Living Room

The living room has proven to be a bigger pain than thought. All the spots you see are the nails that are holding the drywall in place and the holes left from the nails that held the paneling in place. The white stripes are not mud, but only spots that did not yellow over time for some reason. Finishing the corners and seams starts Monday.
The Hallway
Once again there isn't a lot to say about the hallway... the repairs are done and the cupboards are gone, for now. Oh and still no caps on the wood.

Master Bedroom

The drywall is hung and mudded. One more coat and we are ready to paint.

Tune in next week for another progress report. Look to see paint! Oh yeah we're almost done!

End of week one as a home owner

I appologize for the louzy lay out of my last post. It will be better this time. Now on to the progress
The kitchen....

The nasty wall paper is gone. You can't see it but there was some damage done to the dry wall by the removal of the wall paper that needs to be repaired.

The brick board is gone. And let me tell you it was no easy task. Turns out that stuff was wood nailed to more wood which you see now. I thought what you see there now was mactac but its not. Its a venier finish on plywood. Not good. The plywood will be replaced by drywall at some point and then tiled.

Then the dining room.
As you can see all the wall paper, wood paneling, and pink trim is gone. However we found that they didn't bother to mud anything under the wood paneling. This would be a sign of things to come.

The Living room.

The wood paneling is coming off. Not looking good.

Not good at all.

At the end of week one I'm as far as I can go in the living room because Jerhimia (the previous owner) decided not to remove the wood paneling before he built the brick fasade for the wood stove! That means its in behind the brick. Also to be noted the complete lack of mud on any of the dry wall!!!! And since it was done 30 years ago it has been hung with nails instead of screws and that means I have a lot more mudding to do :-(

The Hall way

Thats Elspeth working in the corner.

Our laundry area... those cupboards will have to come down.

Really there isn't a lot to say about the hallway... its coming along.

Spare Bedroom
More wall paper
And more wall paper... but at least the walls are mudded.

This is bad... there is some yellow crap on the wall that doesn't come off and there is different drywall behind it. So Elspeth and I have decided that this wall is too much trouble to fix for painting and we are going to re-wall paper it after we replace the miss sized drywall.

Master Bedroom
There is only one word to describe this but I won't use it in my blog. Needless to say Elspeth and I have some drywall to hang. :-(

So there you have the first weeks work. Why is it whenever you pull something down in a new house you find more problems?

The house

So as many of you may know we now own a house. It was 30 years old when we bought it and it looked like the decor hadn't been up dated since then. So E and I have been working at redecorating. Here are some progress pictures.

IN THE BEGINNING
This is what it looked like when we took possession.

This is the kitchen, and might I note the main entrance to the house.

Take note of the nice brick board behind the fridge and stove.

Personally I really hated the stupid cat boarder.

This is the dining room, just to the right of the kitchen.

Okay so there are a few things to note here... first the nice pink flower boarder, and the 1970's wood paneling on the bottom half of the wall. Oh yes and the pretty pink trim.

Now this is the Living room to the left of the dining room.

Okay, I like the brick around the wood stove but the 70's wood paneling has to go.

Now the hall way, this is to the left of the kitchen and leads to the spare room, bathroom, laundry, and master bedroom.

Once again notice the wall paper; its gotta go. Also to note, there is no cap on the wood on the bottom half of the wall. On the plus side that is a new window.

Now into the Spare Bedroom :-)

Yes it is very pink. I think this made me snap because I started tearing the paper off with my bare hands. Also note that the main breaker panel is in this room; it will be moving. The closets have very nice real wood doors and brass fixtures on them. Also a counter is built into this room as you can see. Elspeth suggested that will make a nice vanity in the future.

Now the Master Bedroom

Okay, what can I say here? He started to dry wall and didn't finish. And I swear there was a sale on bad 70's wood paneling somewhere because I am finding it all over this house and not always where you would expect to see it.

Well thats all for this post check in again next Sunday to see how we are doing with the renos.
