End of week one as a home owner

I appologize for the louzy lay out of my last post. It will be better this time. Now on to the progress
The kitchen....

The nasty wall paper is gone. You can't see it but there was some damage done to the dry wall by the removal of the wall paper that needs to be repaired.

The brick board is gone. And let me tell you it was no easy task. Turns out that stuff was wood nailed to more wood which you see now. I thought what you see there now was mactac but its not. Its a venier finish on plywood. Not good. The plywood will be replaced by drywall at some point and then tiled.

Then the dining room.
As you can see all the wall paper, wood paneling, and pink trim is gone. However we found that they didn't bother to mud anything under the wood paneling. This would be a sign of things to come.

The Living room.

The wood paneling is coming off. Not looking good.

Not good at all.

At the end of week one I'm as far as I can go in the living room because Jerhimia (the previous owner) decided not to remove the wood paneling before he built the brick fasade for the wood stove! That means its in behind the brick. Also to be noted the complete lack of mud on any of the dry wall!!!! And since it was done 30 years ago it has been hung with nails instead of screws and that means I have a lot more mudding to do :-(

The Hall way

Thats Elspeth working in the corner.

Our laundry area... those cupboards will have to come down.

Really there isn't a lot to say about the hallway... its coming along.

Spare Bedroom
More wall paper
And more wall paper... but at least the walls are mudded.

This is bad... there is some yellow crap on the wall that doesn't come off and there is different drywall behind it. So Elspeth and I have decided that this wall is too much trouble to fix for painting and we are going to re-wall paper it after we replace the miss sized drywall.

Master Bedroom
There is only one word to describe this but I won't use it in my blog. Needless to say Elspeth and I have some drywall to hang. :-(

So there you have the first weeks work. Why is it whenever you pull something down in a new house you find more problems?
